Let’s Ride
This is the part of the season where videos are coming at us every single day, which is both the best and most dreaded time of year for me. Sifting through them all and choosing my favorites is always a challenge - but I’m up for it. All three of this week’s videos got me fired up to ride, I hope they do the same for you!
The Next Goldstone?
He’s eleven years old and already riding like this. Sounds familiar, right? Jackson Goldstone (and other riders like Finn Iles) started exactly this way - by dropping mega whips and stylish edits. Benson Archer is already Australia’s U13 DH champion, and I’m sure he’s just getting started.
Kaidan Ingersoll
So much style (and some heavy tricks!) crammed into one video. Kaidan Ingersoll’s riding style is so fun to watch - you almost forget how gnarly the tricks are. Lots of slopestyle and dirt jump bangers in here, with a little trail riding mixed in for good measure. That last trick was insane.
Jackson Goldstone
Here’s a video of Jackson Goldstone riding his bike really fast and stylish through the trails in Santa Cruz. I know there are more than a few edits that fit this same description, but I’m perfectly fine with it. Keep ‘em coming!
Did You See This?
Brendan Carberry is one of my favorite creators - his creativity knows no bounds. Over the past few years, I’ve lost more than a few days struggling with internal cable routing - and I think he just came up with the perfect solution.
Newsworthy
🕵🏻♂️ EuroBike, the biggest European trade show, went down last week and PinkBike did a ton of coverage from the event. Here’s the link that takes you to everything they saw.
🤘 Dennis Enarson is one of the best bike riders in the world. Doesn’t matter what bike he’s on (BMX or MTB), he absolutely puts on a show. Here’s a MTB edit from his trip to Snow Summit!
🎥 Loris Vergier has launched his own YouTube channel, and he’s off to a strong start! Check out his first video, looking at his preparation for the upcoming world cup.
😳 Big wheels are coming…but these are gigantic!
🙌 The Oregon Coast got some shine in Pivot’s latest “Underexposed”. These trails are all less than two hours from my house, I think it’s time for a roadtrip!
🏆 There’s a FEST Series event happening in Slovenia - check out the bike park build for it!
👉 Oops: Last week, I shared a link to get 35% off Momentous (the protein, creatine and sleep supplement I use). The 35% is only for subscriptions - if you order anything individually, it’s only 14% off. Still good, though!
I Can’t Stop Thinking About
I rolled up to a ride last week and my buddy Alex said, “Dude, have you even ridden that bike?” It looked brand new, like I’d just pulled it out of the box.
But the truth is, I’ve been riding my bright orange Marin Rift Zone XR AXS all season. Alex can’t be faulted, though. In seasons past, my bike has been admittedly less dialed in (and clean).
When I worked for Red Bull, I met a performance coach who would have his riders go through their bike from top to bottom before dropping in at big events like Rampage. Going through and tightening every bolt and dialing in the bike would give them a mental advantage: confidence in the bike and their ability to ride it. This is the pre-ride practice that I’ve adapted this year, and it’s making a meaningful difference in my rides.
A big reason why: my friends just launched Formula 100, which has developed some of the best chain lubes and bike washes on the planet (with the help of a parent company that does the same stuff for aerospace development - like spaceships and stuff). My bike has never been cleaner or more dialed in, and apparently, it shows!
12 MTB Skills To Improve Your Riding
Here’s a proper breakdown of a bunch of skills to help you polish your technical riding! You can practice these anywhere (most of them on flat ground) and apply them to the trail.
I Know That Guy!
I’ve been fortunate enough to spend a fair bit of time around Cam Zink in real life, but it’s another thing to show up next to him like this! Zink just joined the Formula 100 team, and I had to snap this screenshot when it went live. There’s a reason why we’re both using Formula 100 - definitely give it a look if you haven’t already!
Thank You
I can’t believe it’s almost July…summer is in full swing and I hope you’re getting a chance to ride as much as I am! Thanks for reading this week’s newsletter, I hope it got you stoked to ride bikes!
