The World's Best Bike Videos #88
Wait...a SECRET video segment? When were they going to tell us about this?!
Let’s Ride
It’s never a bad week when someone drops a secret segment out of the blue. I don’t think the timing could have been any better after Jackson Goldstone’s back-to-back World Cup wins. And by the looks of things, we’ll have another video dropping in the next few days from our other favorite Canadian rider, Brandon Semenuk!
Jackson Goldstone’s Secret Segment
Ok, but WHY would you keep this Jackson Goldstone segment a secret for an entire year after the release? It’s so rad - and there’s a subtle nod to the legend, Stevie Smith, in the intro. Everything about this is awesome - I’m confused why they held it back, but relieved that they finally decided to share!
Queenstown Is Actually Heaven
I would like to submit another piece of evidence to my growing file of proof that Queenstown, NZ is actually Heaven. This place has it all, and I am hilariously overdue for a return trip. Andy Lehmann and Sam Marzetti do the Queenstown trails justice with this edit!
Minnaar: The Other Side Of The Hill
It’s always interesting to see what happens to top athletes after they wrap up their career on the racetrack. Greg Minnaar has honestly gone a completely different direction than I expected. I find this stuff so fascinating, and it’s been fun to watch him break new ground. This series ought to be good!
Did You See This?
I have no idea what Tomomi Nishikubo is actually doing in this clip, but I know that whatever it is will melt everyone’s minds in a few more days. What an insane teaser for his next video…stay tuned!
Newsworthy
😔 I was sort of hoping that maybe there would be a loophole where Hans Rey got to stay on GT forever, but he just posted his official farewell video. End of an era, to say the least (I have some more thoughts on this below).
🔥 Brandon Semenuk posted a teaser to another upcoming video that should be released any day now. Stay tuned!
👉 Northwest Tune-Up is less than a month away. It’s a rad mountain bike festival in Bellingham that mixes music and bikes! I’m planning to be there, come ride bikes and hang!
⚡️ Loam Wolf did a huge video shootout with 12 of the newest eMTBs out there. Have a look to see which bike came out on top!
🤘 There is a FEST Series event coming to Bellingham, Washington in August. Check out the trailer for the event here!
I Can’t Stop Thinking About
By now, you’ve likely heard the news of GT closing up shop and all the riders moving on - which felt like a giant gut-punch across the industry, because so many riders have grown up with this brand. My first proper mountain bike was a GT Avalanche, and my first trials bike was a GT Team Trials. To say that Hans Rey made an impact on my riding would be the understatement of the century. I’m confident that I’m not the only one who feels this way.
Hans Rey created the roadmap that so many of us are still following to this day. Instead of focusing entirely on competition, he created stories, developed films and rode countless demonstrations around the world. I can’t even begin to imagine how many people he inspired to pick up a mountain bike - and even today, I think he’s still inspiring a lot of people.
This past week, Hans did a proper farewell video to GT after 38 years of collaboration. Truly an incredible run for both Hans and GT, and a real bummer that it had to end this way. But knowing Hans, the next chapter will continue to inspire, because that’s what he does best.
Customizing My Bike!
I got this bike about a year ago, and since then, I’ve been having an absolute blast with it! The best part is that you can customize it to match your riding style - which I demonstrate in this video. You can change the bottom bracket height, chainstay length and headtube angle with relative ease. Check it out!
Thank You
What a week - and from the looks of things, next week is going to be packed with banger films, too! Thanks for reading this week’s newsletter, I hope you’re getting out for some solid rides this month - summer is finally here!
