The World's Best Bike Videos #86
Riding around the world, an international check-in, and some of the most insane POV footage we've seen..
Let’s Ride
Welcome to this week’s newsletter - coming to you from the other side of the world! I’m currently traveling through China on a film trip, which has given me extra time to collect bike videos for this week’s edition (thanks jet lag)!
Also, a sincere THANK YOU to everyone who follows me on Instagram, we just broke 100k followers last night!
Lael Rides Around The World
Lael Wilcox is incredible, on and off the bike. As one of the best distance athletes in the world, what goal could be any bigger than riding your bike around the world?! To be able to document the journey and share it is incredible - and now you can watch the entire journey in one place. Check this out!
This Is Rad
Wow. This was stunning - black and white the whole way through, including the kits of the riders. To be able to put this whole thing together with intention, and have it come out this great, was some serious effort. Big respect to the crew that made this video happen!
Game of Bike: MTB vs Moto
You have to give Matt Jones credit: he’s pushed his riding ability in so many ways, even after achieving success in the world of freeride. Being able to compete in events like Red Bull Hard Line - AND - being able to mix it up with one of the best moto enduro racers on the planet. Respect!
All We’ve Ever Wanted
This is a proper shreddit from Peter Jamison. Incredible riding, incredible spots, definitely check it out! Peter has been putting out a ton of great content on his YouTube channel, worthy of a follow for sure.
Did You See This?
Does anyone else feel like they’re watching a sped-up video when they see downhill race POV clips? Here’s the clip from Asa Vermette’s race run in Loudenvielle this past weekend - unreal speed down the mountain.
Newsworthy
🏆 No spoilers until you click the link! The UCI Downhill World Cup in Loudenvielle is a wrap, and while we patiently wait for Sleeper to put together a banger edit from the race, we have these two official recap videos of the men’s elite finals / women’s elite finals.
🔥 The Cam Zink Invitational is underway - check out the pre-event video here (this link takes you directly to some riding footage) and stay tuned for some epic event footage soon!
🕵🏻♂️ Honestly, PinkBike is crushing the World Cup analysis game right now. Big respect to Ben Cathro and the entire team putting these videos together. Such great perspective, every single time.
😳 Matt Jones brought back the loop-de-loop from one of his original Red Bull videos and rebuilt it for an edit. This thing is staggering in size, crazy to think about riding something like this!
👉 Two of the most stylish mountain bikers just going about their business and shredding like crazy. T-Mac and R-Dog getting it done!
I Can’t Stop Thinking About
Hello from Shenzhen, China! I’m here for the next week filming a project, and had the most incredible experience on our first day here. Whatever you think about China, you’re probably wrong - I know I was. Within an hour of riding at this spot, tons of kids on the most insane mountain bikes rolled up to hang out with us.
I’ve been collaborating with some riders over here to share my Super Rider videos on the social media platforms in China (they don’t have YouTube, etc), because I wanted to share the skills tutorials as wide as possible, to help everyone learn control and confidence on two wheels.
While we use subtitles to enhance my videos over here, there were no subtitles needed during this impromptu meetup in Shenzhen. Riding is a universal language, and never was that more apparent to me than during the riding session that broke out after I snapped this photo. Wild to be on the other side of the world, doing the same thing I do with my friends back home: having fun on two wheels.
The Skill No One Practices
It's hard to believe it, but people stopped practicing one of the most fundamental skills in MTB because a version of the skill "looked weird". In this video, we're going to bring it back to life, because it's not weird - it's useful. Maybe riding a standing wheelie across a parking lot isn't the move, but the fundamentals of being able to stand on your bike and bring the front wheel up with your pedals can have a dramatic impact on your ability to ride mountain bikes. In this video, we're going to learn the basics of the movement on flat ground, and then I'll teach you how to apply it to obstacles on the trail.
Thank You
Thanks again for joining me this week - I hope you enjoyed all the videos, news and updates in this newsletter. If you’re digging this weekly newsletter, please consider forwarding it to another rider who would be stoked on it, too!
