The World's Best Bike Videos #82
Get your headphones ready for this week's top video. Plus...I have a video to add to this week's collection. We are so back!
Let’s Ride
Does it feel like this year is already flying by? Darkfest is behind us, the second Red Bull Hardline event lineup was just announced, and it won’t be long until UCI downhill racing kicks into gear. Is this going to be the season that someone takes the Gates prize for $100K? I would bet on it.
Cody Kelley = Speed and Style
Watch this video with headphones, the audio is almost as impressive as the riding and editing. Cody is absolutely ripping in this video (with such good style). No notes, absolutely hyped to go ride bikes after watching this video.
Utopia 2
It should be obvious, but there is a huge catalog of incredible MTB content coming in from other countries - and this video from France is a great look into the world outside of our English language MTB content. There are subtitles for the handful of speaking parts - but mostly this video is filled with our universal language: Shredding.
Stop Walking Tough Trails
We are so back. After a very long winter and plenty of rain, the weather has improved to the point where I can start making my own videos again! This time, it’s all about a skill that will unlock difficult trails for you - using a skill that you can learn on flat ground. This is the first time I’ve taught this skill using the pedal pressure method, I hope it’s helpful to your riding!
Did You See This?
Kirt Voreis is the OG freerider - the racer who inspired so many riders to expand beyond the racetrack into more creative styles of riding. Your favorite rider’s favorite rider. He’s still going strong and inspiring us daily, check out his most recent clip:
Newsworthy
🏆 Red Bull Hardline Wales athletes were announced, but if you’re not logging from the UK, it redirects you to a broken link. Here’s a link to the PinkBike article with all the info you need. Do you think they’ll bring back that creek gap this year?
📝 Asa Vermette signed with Frameworks for the next three years. A huge statement on the quality of the bikes, the commitment from the team, and the future of the sport.
👀 The CEO of Worldwide Cyclery made a fascinating video about the changes in the bike industry. There’s been no shortage of videos on this topic, but his perspective is a bit different than most. Super interesting!
🤘 Hannah Bergemann’s USA roadtrip is complete, with plenty of episodes from her stops along the way. I’m excited to see what Hannah has in store for this season - keep an eye on this channel and join me as we follow along!
🔥 Samuel Hlavaty is one of my favorite Trials riders, he goes absolutely massive and makes it look effortless. If you want to see what one of his practice sessions looks like, watch this!
👉 This is your final reminder that Brandon Semenuk and his film team are creating a YouTube channel and reposting all of his banger videos. I suspect we’ll see some new stuff here soon, too.
I Can’t Stop Thinking About
We are so back. I have been waiting so long to finally release a new batch of long-form videos on the channel, but the weather has just not cooperated so far this year. One of the things I gave up this past year was a warehouse, which allowed me to film anytime I wanted. Now that I don’t have the warehouse, I have to work quite a bit harder to find the right time (and weather) to make videos happen.
Thankfully, with the sun and blue skies returning to Portland, we should have a solid stretch of filming tutorials again. And…lesson learned on the wintertime struggles. Next year, I’ll plan better to stack up some content so we can keep the videos flowing all year round.
Thanks for sticking around, I hope you enjoy this week’s new MTB tutorial.
Second Nature Turns 100!
Our podcast about the business of the bike + outdoor industry just crossed a massive milestone this week: 100 episodes! Each week, we bring on guests from different brands throughout the mountain bike, trail running, and other various corners of the outdoor industry (and sometimes beyond) to share insight, advice and tactics. If you’ve ever wanted to hear about the “behind the scenes” of the industry, I think you’ll dig this podcast!
Thank You
Thanks for reading this week’s newsletter - if you ever have videos that you want to recommend for future newsletters (or if you have any suggestions), you can always write back to this e-mail and I’ll check it out. Hope you’re enjoying the videos - and more importantly, I hope you’re getting some great rides in this month!
