The World's Best Bike Videos #81
Aerodynamics, neon night riding, and a new camera to break the internet.
Let’s Ride
Riding season is in full swing - FINALLY - over here. With a few World Cup XC races already done and dusted, it won’t be too long until we get to see some downhill races. I don’t know about you, but I’m excited to see what this season brings. This week’s newsletter has some fun surprises - if you like starting your Mondays with videos and MTB news, please consider sharing it with another rider who might also be stoked on it:
Drenched And Determined
There’s a legendary ski movie where they shot at night while everyone wore light suits - and now they are making a new film. This time, there’s going to be a mountain bike segment with Carson Storch, R Dog, Hannah Bergemann and a few more. Check out what went into making it happen!
Aerodynamic Asa Vermette
“We are one of the only time trial sports that doesn’t pay attention to aerodynamics. Some guys are…and you can see those guys out there - winning a lot of races.” What a banger quote from Neko. Wild to see what goes into actually testing aerodynamics in a wind tunnel.
Casey Brown: Back 40 - Mexico
Casey Brown, Micayla Gatto and Georgia Astle headed down to Oaxaca, Mexico to lead a bunch of rides and experience the local culture. Some serious shredding in this video!
Did You See This?
This trail in Turkey looks all time - with or without the balloons launching all around you - like a giant downhill bobsled run! Would you be looking at the trail or the sky on this run?
Newsworthy
👀 Revel Co (the production company teamed up with Brandon Semenuk) has officially launched a YouTube channel. Go subscribe now, it’ll be loaded up with banger MTB videos like this one before you know it!
🎙️ Rob Warner was just featured on Gypsy Tales - it’s a huge moto podcast, but they’ve had a bunch of MTB riders on it before. This is a deep discussion - and they go a lot of places that most MTB podcasts wouldn’t go. Fascinating to listen (and I spotted some of my old Freecaster footage in the intro)!
🔥 Hannah Bergemann is on a huge roadtrip across the USA, fully shredding! Check out the latest episode - from Oregon!
🤷🏻♂️ The Fox Inverted fork made some real waves at Sea Otter this year, but is it legit? Jordi Cortes shares his REAL opinion about it in this video.
👉 This was a wild one! Nicolas Fleury takes over Hyrox on two wheels in France!
🎥 Insta360 dropped a new camera - the X5 - and The Loam Ranger gave it a full breakdown. You might not know this, but Loam Ranger also has a tech channel called Run The Joules, so I think he’s extra qualified to do the X5 breakdown.
😳 This new public dirt jump park looks insane! It always blows my mind to see how much work goes into a spot like this - definitely need to check out this spot!
I Can’t Stop Thinking About
I just booked a trip to China to ride mountain bikes at the end of May. Of all the places in the world to ride, I’m the most interested to check out this zone. I’m honestly not sure what we’ll see, but I expect there will be a few surprises along the way, and I can’t wait to report back. While the itinerary is still coming together, I think we are going to get a chance to check out DJI’s factory (and their MTB test track) and a few other notable spots.
I’ve been sharing my tutorial videos on the social media channels over there for the past year. Because the sport is growing rapidly over there, and I figured I could help guide new riders to build confidence and control on two wheels as our sport continues to grow globally. I’m excited to meet the local riders on my trip to fully understand how mountain biking is taking hold over there - and of course, we’ll be filming it all, so you can see what the mountain bike scene looks like.
Learning To Ride MTB in Two Weeks
One of my favorite MTB trips of all time, a cross-country roadtrip with my son to teach him how to ride! Teegan is graduating from college this week, a huge milestone for both of us, so I wanted to share this video in his honor. So many great rides on this trip!
Thank You
Thanks so much for reading this week’s newsletter - I hope you enjoyed all the videos and news that I shared, and I hope you’re getting out there and riding. The rain has finally chilled out where I live, and the rides are getting better and better. I’m finally back to filming again, too - super stoked!
