The World's Best Bike Videos #66
An official announcement, plenty of new teams and sponsors, and some behind-the-scenes action!
Let’s Ride
Before we dive into this week’s videos and news, I wanted to share something I came across. Velo pulled together a list of all the ways you can help the riders and industry people who have been displaced or affected by the LA fire. This is the most complete rollup I’ve seen so far, so if you’re looking for a way to support, check out this list.
Ridden Everywhere
I think I may have posted a previous Lando Steezy video last year at some point, prepare to be blown away by this rider. As his name implies, he rides creatively and with style - on every single bike he gets on. It only gets more interesting as this video progresses, too. Definitely check it out!
The Making Of My Favorite Video From 2024
One thing that’s easy to overlook is how much effort it takes to make a two minute bike video. Lost Paradise 3 was one of my favorite videos of 2024, watching this behind-the-scenes video makes me realize how much time and effort went into delivering a single piece of content to the world. Worth it.
Golden (High Jinks Bonus)
Last year, Josh Lewis put out a video called “High Jinks” that had all sorts of awesome riding. But just like any legit mountain bike video, sometimes you can’t fit it all in. By the looks of it, there were plenty more bangers on the cutting room floor, so they’ve assembled them here for you to enjoy!
BONUS: MEGATTACK
I love a good product release video, and this one with Ben Cathro does not disappoint. I’ve had the opportunity to get my hands on Megattack grips from Deity and they are really comfortable. In my experience, it’s a love or hate response, since they’re about 2mm thicker than most grips - but I love them. Here’s the link to Deity’s Megattack product page if you want a closer look.
Did You See This?
There’s been a lot of discussion about wheel size, but it’s always focused on making the wheels bigger and bigger. One of my favorite German engineers has taken it to a completely different conclusion.
Newsworthy
👉 One of my favorite bike creators (also from Portland!) is Dustin Klein. His most recent video struck a real chord with me, as I recently came to the same conclusion.
🇳🇿 Pros are descending on New Zealand for the season, buckle up for a mountain of epic riding content to come through. Danny Hart is one of the first riders to arrive, and he’s already getting busy dialing in his new Norco bikes for the season!
👀 Cannondale announced their new riders this week, including XC legend Jolanda Neff. I don’t think I’ll ever get used to seeing people shred with that Lefty fork. I know they’ve been around forever, but it still trips me out!
💰 There’s a $100,000 bounty out there for the first person to win a World Cup on belt-driven bike. Atherton Bikes appears to have built a bike that could be up to the task this season…have a look at it here.
🕵🏻♂️ PinkBike Patent Patrol: They are at it again! This time, uncovering a universal brake mount patent application from SRAM. Not to be outdone, Shimano appears to have filed a patent this week, too. Safe to say, there is plenty of innovation still underway in the bike industry!
I Can’t Stop Thinking About
It’s official: I’m on board with Marin Bikes for the next two years! If you’ve watched any of my videos over the past year, you’ve definitely seen me sampling most of their bikes (Alpine Trail, Rift Zone, Alcatraz, Inverness).
We started working together because I had some friends at the company and more than anything, I just wanted to work with - and support - my friends. As things have progressed, the next logical step was to build an official partnership, so that’s what we did.
I couldn’t be more excited to work with Marin; we’ve got some fun videos on the way for next year. My bike quiver is getting a big update for 2025, too, so keep an eye out - we’re going to be riding and filming here very soon!
This Is What’s Holding You Back
It’s not a single “trick” that you need to learn, but what I teach you in this video will boost your control and ability to expand your comfort zone on the bike in a major way (which, in turn, makes everything else easy). EVERYONE needs to focus on developing this as they ride, including me. There’s always room to improve.
MTB Q&A With Super Rider
Johnnie from MTB Q&A invited me to join his podcast to talk about bikes, filming, this summer’s roadtrip, and plenty more! We went super deep on so many topics, and to be honest, it was great to be a guest on a podcast instead of the host!
Thank You
2025 is happening! We are already two newsletters into the year, and it’s only going to get more exciting from here. I hope you are as excited as I am for the season ahead!
Congratulations on officially working with Marin!
