The World's Best Bike Videos #65
Plenty more than just team announcements and 2024 recaps, there's a new pro downhiller picking up a camera to document this season!
Let’s Ride
I resisted the urge to just do a “2024 Recap” with all of my favorite videos, although that would have probably been a lot easier than wading through all the team announcements to find solid riding videos from the week. We dug deep to find the goods, but it’s all here (including a new vlog series from Ronan Dunne)!
Kilian Bron Owns The POV
Kilian Bron has done some incredible projects in the past year, and he’s got receipts. The first line in this video from Norway looks insane, and it only gets better from there.
Rémy Shredding Quebec
First things first, Quebec is way gnarlier than I ever thought. Second, did you know that Rémy has a second channel with all raw (mostly POV) content? It’s as rad as his main channel, if you ask me. Check out some insane riding in this video - Quebec just got added to my list!
Tim Bringer - Mission: Zero Six
Get ready to rewind, this video is jammed with moments where you’ll see Tim Bringer drop an insane trick, and then you’ll have to go back to make sure you actually saw it right. Keep an eye out for a long manual to front-flip and a double flip (and plenty more). This is a fun one with some seriously crazy riding.
Have You Seen This?
I seriously hope that I can still ride like this when I’m older.
Newsworthy
🏆 Natural Selection: Bike is only a month away, you can keep up with all the athlete invites and event information here. This is going to be a great way to kick off the year!
🎥 Ronan Dunne, last year’s breakout sensation in downhill, is starting to make YouTube videos. Here’s his first vlog, from Queenstown, NZ of all places. Buckle up!
🚀 Frameworks dropped their 2025 team announcement video (introducing Anna Newkirk to the existing team), and if you look closely, you can see Asa Vermette wearing a fresh Red Bull helmet in the video!
🎯 PinkBike announced Robin Goomes as their athlete of the year, which feels very fitting after the dominant year she had with both the Crankworx World Series as well as Red Bull Rampage. Well deserved!
🔥 In other Robin Goomes news, she’s just built a giant training compound in New Zealand, which you can check out in her latest vlog.
👀 Danny Hart has officially joined the NORCO team, check out the full announcement video here. Giant Bicycles also signed two of Canada’s most promising talents, which you can check out in this absolutely ripping announcement video.
I Can’t Stop Thinking About
Could you imagine watching Greg Minnaar rip down the mountain at mach speed, smashing huge jumps and rolling through terrifying rock gardens with ease - and then saying, “Nah, mountain biking isn’t for me,” ?
Now imagine if there was a discipline of mountain biking you could learn that would actually improve your riding in an even more meaningful way than that.
I have been screaming this into the void for the past two decades.
When people watch a Danny MacAskill video, they automatically shut down any interest in learning those skills, purely because it feels unattainable. But the truth is, Greg Minnaar’s level of riding is just as unattainable to us mere mortals (myself included) as Danny’s. My point is that watching someone at the top of their game - regardless of discipline - shouldn’t deter you from understanding the value that the basic fundamental skills could offer.
The real truth is that you can easily learn the basics of what Danny does, and it will dramatically help your mountain biking. Have a look at this video and you’ll see what I mean. I’m going to update a bunch of these videos this coming year, because I think it’s THAT important for riders to learn. Don’t waste another year ignoring these bike control skills - they are not as hard as you think, and they’ll make a huge impact on your riding and confidence on two wheels:
Winter Is For Trackstand Practice
I learned to trackstand in the winter, and so did a bunch of my friends. Some of us learned it in a basement, some in their dorm rooms, some in a garage. This is a skill that you can master in a very tiny space, once you understand the basics. I think the reason this video has been so useful for so many people is that I took a completely different approach to the technique, focusing on an important element that most people miss out on. If you can’t trackstand yet, this is the video that should help you unlock it!
The History Of Red Bull’s USA Launch
This past week on our industry podcast, Second Nature, I interviewed one of my mentors from Red Bull about the actual launch in the USA (back in the late 90s). Even though I worked at Red Bull for 12 years as an Athlete Manager, I still learned a ton from this discussion. Stick around to the end if you want to hear how my most recent video from the SF Peninsula came together!
Thank You
Welcome to 2025 - another year of epic bike videos is upon us! Thanks for starting your week (and your year) with this newsletter. Exciting times ahead!
