Let’s Ride
It’s been a great year, filled with epic riding and epic mountain bike films. I’m still rewatching Deathgrip 2, and I got so excited about it that I decided to make my own version! (Kinda.) In this week’s video, we used the same super slow-motion camera, the Freefly Ember 5K, to film some bike riding around Portland. I think you’ll like this one!
Mind = Blown
Charlie Rolls is well-known within the Trials world as one of the most talented and stylish riders, but most people outside of Trials have yet to see him in action. I HIGHLY encourage you to watch this video, even if you don’t know anything about the sport. You won’t be disappointed.
“A Letter To Stevie” ft. Brook Macdonald
Long live Chainsaw. Hard to believe it’s been eight years already. A heartfelt and incredible piece put together by Brook Macdonald and Forbidden Bikes to honor Stevie Smith.
Hold Fast - Kaos
It’s not even fair for one rider to have all this style. You’re probably going to need to watch this one twice. Flowy and fast, Kaos makes these bike park laps look legit.
It’s Not The Bike
Here’s the quick story: Joel Anderson bought a 2003 Specialized Big Hit and gave it a little refresh (but not too much). Then he went out and rode it full blast, proving that it’s not the bike - it’s the rider. This is a fun one, and Joel shreds that Big Hit!
Have You Seen This?
Kirt Voreis is an absolute legend on two wheels. He was a source of inspiration for almost every single rider in the current generation. His creativity and style inspired us all, and still does. Big respect to the OG! Here’s a historic clip:
Newsworthy
🥳 Jill Kintner is hosting a ride in Peru! Go riding with one of the best racers of all time and see some epic sights, this will be awesome! Check out all the details here.
👋 Jason is leaving the team that built Mahalo My Dude and IFHT Films to pursue his next chapter. This is the most on-brand “parting ways” video, exactly what you’d expect this dynamic duo to put together. Excited to see what the next chapter looks like for both of these guys - I’ll definitely be watching!
🙌 This video from Race Face is really well done - Celeste Pomerantz and Matthew Fairbrother ride through iconic trails in BC together.
🚀 The video from the fifth Backyard Battle event of the summer just dropped, this time, it was from Adolf Silva’s “Loco Camp”. Check out some rowdy riding here!
😖 Oof, last week I wrote a few paragraphs about not seeing any team or sponsor announcements for 2025. In the past week, there have been quite a few, and they’re mostly programs ending. PinkBike is keeping track of all the news (good and bad) in one spot - check it out.
🤘 Graham Agassiz has been releasing episodes called “This Is Living” - here’s the latest episode from the Monster Backyard Battle event in France.
I Can’t Stop Thinking About
Next week’s video took some serious effort to pull off, but I couldn’t be more excited about it. I’ve been trying to take things up a notch for a while, but being a solo creator can be a real challenge when you’re doing all the filming, editing and riding. This time, I got some help from my friends, and the end result is everything I hoped it would be.
I’m going to release it this Friday, and the most special thing about this video is that it’ll give you context around the trails we’re riding - not just ripping POV footage. I’m hoping to do more episodes like this in the future, so if you’re excited about this - please share the video and/or leave a comment on the video. Anything we can do to boost this video will make it even easier for me to make more of these - as we’re trying to partner with local tourism boards to make it happen.
There’s so much more that I want to do with this format, but I’m proud of the first attempt. In any case, I hope you find it entertaining AND useful. That’s the goal.
Filming Bikes In Super Slow Motion
I love the shots in mountain bike videos where they slow down the shot so you can see everything that is happening with the bikes and stuff. As luck would have it, my friend Mark was in town and had one of the cameras they use to film these mountain bike films in super slow motion. You know we had to test it out!
