The World's Best Bike Videos #60
Semenuk is back, Deathgrip 2 is out, and wait...it's December?!
Let’s Ride
Hard to believe that it’s already December, which means…Spring riding season is only a few months away! We got some early Christmas presents this week, in the form of a new Semenuk video and the release of the long-awaited Deathgrip 2 film.
Brandon Semenuk - Liasion
If you don’t have an automatic “must watch” when you see Semenuk’s name in a video title, we need to have a serious talk. Creativity, style, flow…you name it. This one has a ton of variety in it, whereas most of his other films are focus in a specific location. The versatility in this video gives you an even better appreciation of just how good Semenuk is at riding bikes. Any bike.
Deathgrip 2
It’s here! Deathgrip 2 is finally available to the masses! I have been patiently waiting all year to see this film, and it did not disappoint. Big respect to all the riders and production team that brought this to life. Click the link below to find all the places where you can watch the film.
Camera Tricks, Bike Tricks
This is a fun edit - both the riding from Gabriel Wibmer and the camera tricks that The Cut uses to put it together. That manual to front flip at the end took some serious commitment!
Did You See This?
If you’re not already following Seth Stevens, now would be a good time. He’s one of my favorite riders - regardless of what he’s riding (which frequently includes a recumbent bike).
Newsworthy
🔥 This new video from Taj Mihelich resonates so much with me. If you’re not familiar, Taj is a legendary BMXer that inspired so many people to ride - and now he’s doing the same with MTB.
📸 There’s a great photo series from the Deathgrip 2 project up on PinkBike. If you want to just see a bunch of epic shots before (or after) you watch the film, check it out!
🚀 Making History: The Women of Freeride - I think I posted the Red Bull TV link to this in a previous newsletter, but if you want to watch it on YouTube instead, here it is!
🙏 Here’s a heartwarming story about bikes, narrated by the legendary Martyn Ashton.
🚴 If you’re a fan of Zwift, here’s an interview that I did on our other podcast, Second Nature, about their involvement with the Tour de France. We also talk about the first time they used Zwift to get someone a pro athlete contract (in 2016!).
👀 Have you watched videos from Cutlaps? I really like this channel, he’s a trailbuilder from Australia. Check out his latest video if you haven’t already.
I Can’t Stop Thinking About
Did I miss “Silly Season” entirely?
Every year around this time, there’s a flurry of rumors and activity around new sponsors, teams and programs. It’s called Silly Season because you never know who is going where. Riders match up with unexpected partners that send shockwaves through the industry. Last year’s Norco x Minnaar pairing comes to mind!
But this year, I can’t find a whiff of sponsorship news on any website. I know the industry has been in a rough spot the past few years, but this could be the real sign that brands are buckling down. It’s a noticeable change from previous years, and I hope this is a one-off.
Maybe it’s coming on January 1st, when all the new contracts kick in? I can say that I have a few partnerships launching in January that I’m really excited to announce, but I have no idea if this is the case for anyone else. I guess we’ll find out in a month!
Two Weeks of Nonstop MTB
If you missed any of the roadtrip videos (or if you just want to relive the entire series again), I’ve compiled it all into one “film” that you can find here. It’s still crazy to me that we pulled this off. Driving across the country, riding epic spots (with friends!) - and honestly no major issues with weather or anything else. What should we do next Summer?
Uncovering New Stuff
One thing you might not know about me is that I am obsessed with uncovering new stuff and sharing it with my friends (wait…I guess that’s sort of the theme of this newsletter). That extends to new brands and new flavors, and honestly…exactly why I asked The Feed if I could do this taste-testing program. Through this process I’ve discovered a ton of new stuff that I’m going to add into my riding pack. Here are my current favorites:
Because today is Cyber Monday, they are basically giving this stuff away at The Feed. Now would be an ideal time to stock up for next season!
The Feed is supporting Super Rider this month, and with any luck they’ll continue letting me taste-test the rest of their inventory!
Thank You
Wait…this is the 60th newsletter?! Crazy how time flies - 60 weeks of nonstop mountain bike videos, news, and everything in between. Thanks so much for reading this far and supporting Super Rider. I hope you enjoyed this week’s videos!
