The Best MTB Videos (#39)
There was no calm before the storm in Les Gets, just all-out mayhem on two wheels.
Don’t Sleep on Sleeper
Andrew WK soundtrack combined with downhill racing? Sign me up! Wild to see the difference in this track between practice/qualifying and the finals. That rain really turned the track into a slippery mess - doesn’t look like anyone was safe in those conditions.
Shadows In The Understory
There was a film a long time ago called “Seasons” that did a similar theme to this video, but this crew took it a step further. It took me about half the video before I realized his bike was switching colors to match the seasons, too. This is a well-done video from every angle: riding, concept, shooting and editing. Check it out!
Brett Rheeder - Electric Unicorn
Brett Rheeder going full blast on a BC trail, what’s not to love?
Did You See This?
A few weeks ago, I shared a video with Eliot Jackson absolutely ripping. There was something about the video that I couldn’t put my finger on - and now I know why. Check out the apparatus they used to film this segment, this is some serious gimbal tech. The fact that they rode with this camera setup (and at that speed) is impressive.
Newsworthy
🏆 Want to catch the highlights of the Les Gets World Cup race this past weekend? Check out the women’s race and the men’s race. The conditions were an absolute mess, Aaron Gwin called it “riding on an ice rink with tree roots mixed in”.
🕵🏻♂️ Eurobike, the biggest bike industry tradeshow in Europe, happened last week. There are always a few surprises (like the DJI EMTB motor) that keep it interesting. Check out PinkBike and Loam Wolf’s coverage from the event.
🙌 Sam Pilgrim teamed up with Samantha Soriano for a video at Highland MTB Park. So awesome to see her in Sam’s most recent video - check it out if you haven’t already!
🤘 Northwest Tune-Up is this coming weekend in Bellingham, WA. It’s a bike and music festival with a bunch of live bands (and plenty of riding). See you there!
🎥 To celebrate the Les Gets World Cup this past weekend, legendary filmmaker Alex Rankin released footage from UnEarthed of Peaty winning Les Gets in 2002. Wild to see how much downhill bikes have changed since then!
The 30-Day Challenge
Now that Summer is in full swing and we’re not dodging snow and rain, it’s time to make the most of our time on two wheels! This video is a 30-day program that challenges you to develop bike control and confidence, breaking down skills into tiny drills and helping you build from the ground up. Check it out and see if you can make it through all 30 challenges!
Flat Pedals
On our way through Idaho on the roadtrip, we stopped by the Deity office and swooped a few new pieces of gear for my Alpine Trail. These Flat Trak pedals just came out (after two years of heavy testing) and they feel incredible. My previous pedals were concave, so these flat pedals provide a different feel to the bike. I think I’m going to swap this in on a few bikes, I like this flat pedal feel.
Thank You!
Thanks so much for reading this week’s newsletter. If you’re stoked on this weekly digest of rad videos, news and other stuff - the best way to support it would be sharing it with a riding buddy who would also be stoked on it. Or, if you REALLY like it, there’s a Members option where you can kick in a few bucks to support the cause. Either way, I’m just stoked that you’re here. Thanks again!
